Moving Away

I have lived in Vancouver, BC for the past two years. But now I am done with my grad program at UBC, and it is time to move on. It breaks my heart to leave this beautiful city and beautiful province that I have come to know and love. While this blog will no longer be regularly updated, there will be new posts on the (hopefully not too rare) occasions when I take trips back to BC.

Snow in Vancouver

It snowed in Vancouver this past Tuesday, November 29. It was pretty cold after that so the snow pretty much stuck around. It snowed again today. Since I'm now done with school and I have time to enjoy the pretty white stuff, a friend and I took a walk through Pacific Spirit Park this afternoon to admire the beauty. We ended the walk at the University Golf Course, where several cross-country skiiers were making use of the large expanses of snowy landscape.

Capilano Canyon

This morning I went for a walk in Capilano Canyon Regional Park. The sun was shining, I had cabin fever, and I was desperate to stretch my legs after a week in front of the computer. It was a beautiful morning, perfect for a walk on the North Shore. It hasn't snowed in the mountains for awhile, so there wasn't a lot of snow on The Lions. But they were still pretty as a backdrop against Capilano Lake.

The lake is a lot more full than it was last time I was here, back in February. It seemed to be at normal levels, and there was a lot of water going down the spillway.

I spent an hour walking along the trails on the west side of the river. There was a little bit or morning mist, and I got some good shots of the sun shining through the trees and the mist. Very cool.

Before going back up to the car, I stopped at the viewpoint for the dam. The mist from the roaring water made a rainbow!

Crossing back over the dam to the parking lot, I got a good view of the Grouse Mountain Skyride going up and down the mountain. I still haven't done that. One more thing I'd like to do before leaving Vancouver.

Snow on the North Shore

The clouds have finally lifted today, revealing the snow-capped North Shore Mountains.

Dramatic Sunset

We had a VERY stormy day in Vancouver. Howling wind and driving rain for most of the day. The weather finally eased shortly before 3:00, and a little while later we had a dramatic sunset.

Sunset

Now that we're off Daylight Savings, official sunset today was at the depressingly early time of 4:52. But it was a beautiful sunset nonetheless.
